Wow man, you really mean it when you say you've started buying records again. I'm with you on the Bad Plus. I saw them by accident at an unlikely doubleheader gig with Toumani Diabate's Symettric Orchestra back in Dublin. Musically TBP were far superior, especially that balladesque number in 9/8 whose name escapes me. Entertainment-wise the Symettrics probably had the edge, not least because they refused to tailor their main form of communication (heavily accented French) to the occasion (few francophones present).

And JJ with Shocked is a cool combination. Maybe I'll start buying records again...

Hey, I'm glad to read a cool review of "Fragile". We can always argue on what it is to be jazzy or not to be, but at least you made a point here : JJM has never polished his tone so much for a record. This is more a CD for the sound rather than a CD for the notes, and that can be pleasant for sure ^_^

Well, IIRC, "Daddy's gone" on Blue 3rd had a somewhat gently overdriven harp on it, though almost unnoticable, but giving a "crunchy" feel to it, contrasting with the other tracks of the record with a more naturel sound.
