This is what a cover should be...

Found this really cool cover of The Police's Message in a Bottle by John Butler.

Riff inversion, different groove, very cool solo, and yet it's unmistakeably the same song...

Taratata Rools !

Taratata is a French music show on TV that has been gowing strong for over 15 years every week (more or less). There's a lot of pop, but Nagui, the presenter and producer of the show has a genuine love of music and will occasionally go out of his way to feature blues, jazz, folk or some weird stuff.

I recently noticed that a lot of taratata videos on Youtube had been removed, and I now know why. They opened a website www.mytaratata.com which compiles (as far as I can say) all the videos from all the shows. Or at least a ton of them.

If you don't speak French, just click on Tous les Artistes (all the artists) to access a listing of all the featured artists, and browse away! To celebrate its opening, here's one I found last night, reminds me of my misspent youth...

Slide guitar at its best...

While I'm writing up on last week's concert with Bob Brozman, here's a video of another slide player I admire greatly, Kevin Brown. I'll let the video speak for itself...

Still in a New Orleans mood...

I'm still preparing the next podcast (it's going to be long and needs to be documented, so...) and I stumbled upon this little gem of N'awlins Funk ! The Meters' Lokk-Ka Py Py...

This is what Galactic was like...

This morning I scanned Youtube for Galactic videos similar to what I saw on Friday night. Here's one with Boots Riley which is exactly it and give a good feel for how cool that gig was...

Thinking of Jeff Healey

This week Jeff Healey passed away, aged 41. I was never a huge fan since I dicovered him when I was moving away from blues-rock, but he was an exceptional talent even if you ignore his blindness. This is one of the better videos I've found, a slow, deep, rendition of As the years go passing by.

Bringing the harp into the 21st century...

I wanted to apologise for my lack of posting these last few weeks. Lots of moving around and lots of work to blame. I have selected tracks for the next podcast, but not found the time to actually put the whole thing together.

Anyway, hopefully, things will improve in the coming weeks. In the meantime, I received an email this week-end about Son of Dave's manager about his new album O3 coming out. This prompted me to check out Youtube for Son of Dave videos, and this one is really amazing and representative of what he does. Very good stuff...

Ethnic Midnight Express

Midnight Express was set in Turkey, these two crazies take it back there. Good stuff!

Luckiest Man... indeed!

Since I'm out of town this week and most likely unable to post, and in honor of the Wood Brothers releasing their second album soon, here's a good quality video of Luckiest Man from their first.

God, I love this band!

Ian Siegal on Fabchannel

I watched the second part of that concert live when it was broadcasted last week, but it's now up in the Fabchannel archive. And it's hot. As I said last time I mentioned Ian Siegal, there's not a lot in modern blues production that gets me excited, but this guy does.
